Palestinians PlightThe Palestinian humanitarian crisis is a prime example of suffering the West does not hear enough of. It has an unjust and deep complex history. Westerners need to hear the Palestinian perspective.
The Israeli regime has given a green light to its military to prepare for a ground offensive against the Gaza Strip, a top Israeli military official says.
The unnamed official stated that Tel Aviv's decision authorizes the military to attack the occupied territory, AP reported on Wednesday.
The Israeli regime claims the move is aimed at halting rocket fire from the besieged coastal strip.
The Israeli military would be allowed to take all necessary steps against the Gaza Strip by the new order.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday warned that Tel Aviv would operate “vigorously and resolutely” against those that would threaten its security.
“A security philosophy cannot rely on defense alone,” Netanyahu said. “It must also include offensive capabilities, the very foundation of deterrence.”
Israeli warplanes have launched a series of strikes in Gaza since Saturday. At least 11 Palestinians have been killed in the attacks.

Is there ever a day when they are not attacking Gaza?
The attacks have worsened since they were admitted to UNESCO. They are suffering collective punishment.

Israel punishes Palestine over UNESCO
Israel has announced it will construct thousands of additional settler units and withhold the transfer of Palestinian tax collections in response to UNESCO's decision to admit Palestine as a full member state.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his key ministers decided to accelerate construction work in occupied East al-Quds (Jerusalem) and in other parts of the occupied territories on Tuesday, a day after the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) voted to admit Palestine into the organization as its newest member at its Paris headquarters.
"These measures were agreed… as punishment after the vote at UNESCO," an Israeli official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP.
"We will build 2,000 housing units, including 1,650 homes in East Jerusalem [al-Quds] and the rest in the settlements of Maaleh Adumim and Efrat," he said.
The official added that Netanyahu and his cabinet ministers also decided to freeze the transfer of funds to the Palestinian Authority (PA).
Every month, Israel collects about $60 million in customs duties, which are levied on goods destined for Palestinian markets that transit through Israeli ports. The funds make up a large percentage of the PA budget.
Tel Aviv's latest move will impose another burden on Palestinians, who are already facing hardships due to a truncated economy caused by Israeli restrictions.
The PA says it pays more than $200 million every month only in salaries and financial assistance to the neediest Palestinian families.
Over the past few months, Israel has decided to expand illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories several times.
In September 2011, the European Union censured Tel Aviv for its illegal construction activities in the occupied territories.

International activists say two ships carrying humanitarian assistance and pro-Palestinian campaigners have set sail from Turkey in a new attempt to break Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.
A statement issued by the Freedom Waves to Gaza activists said the mini-flotilla made up of one Irish vessel and one Canadian ship had left Fethiye on Turkey's south coast on Wednesday afternoon and planned to arrive in Gaza on Friday, AFP reported.
The Canadian ship Tahrir and the Irish ship Saoirse, which are now in international waters, are carrying 27 people, including journalists and crew members, along with $30,000 worth of medicines.
Israeli blockade on the occupied Palestinian territories has caused a severe shortage of medical supplies, particularly in the Gaza Strip, according to a World Health Organization's May 2010 resolution, which demanded that Tel Aviv end the siege immediately.
The international humanitarian mission is “to challenge Israel's ongoing criminal blockade of the territory," the activists stated.
An activist on the Canadian ship said, "We have the wind of public opinion at our back and in our sails, which strengthens our resolve and determination to challenge the illegal blockade of Gaza's 1.5 million inhabitants."
The Israeli military attacked the Gaza Freedom Flotilla in international waters on May 31, 2010, killing nine Turkish activists on board the Mavi Marmara, which was part of the six-ship aid convoy.
Relations between Turkey and Israel have seriously deteriorated since Israel's assault on the humanitarian mission in the Mediterranean Sea.
The organizers of the latest flotilla said, in an attempt to prevent Israeli intervention, they had organized their mission secretly.
Gaza has been blockaded since 2007, a situation which has caused a decline in the standard of living and brought about unprecedented levels of unemployment and poverty.
Tel Aviv slightly eased the land blockade of Gaza after the May 2010 attack, allowing in more consumer goods. However, the naval siege of the Gaza Strip remains in place, exports are banned, and imports of raw materials and construction materials are restricted.

Two Gaza-bound relief boats have set sail from Turkey carrying humanitarian relief aid to the besieged Palestinian territory in the newest attempt to break the Israeli blockade of the coastal enclave, Press TV reports.
The mini aid flotilla, called “Freedom Waves to Gaza” and made up of an Irish and a Canadian boat, left the Turkish port city of Fethiye on Wednesday afternoon, a Press TV correspondent reported.
Although the aid flotilla is scheduled to arrive in Gaza on Friday, the Israeli regime is reportedly preparing to launch an attack on the humanitarian convoy before it reaches its destination.

The passengers on Freedom Waves to Gaza are from Canada, Ireland, Palestine, Egypt, the United States and Australia. They say their international humanitarian mission is "to challenge Israel's ongoing criminal blockade of the territory."
"The closure in Gaza began 20 years ago, so it has been an increasing closure, an increasing crackdown on their freedom of mobility, and it is high time that this blockade was ended," said David Heap of the Canadian boat.
"Of course we are listening to the voices of the Arab Spring. The boat's name is Tahrir. We obviously are in solidarity with all of the freedom movements in the region, but the critical need for us is to keep challenging and, in all of that turmoil, not forget that the Palestinians of Gaza are under blockade and do not have their freedom of movement," Heap added.
