Hebrew: שב"כ, an acronym for Sherut Bitahon Klali (Hebrew: שירות ביטחון כללי), literally General Security Service, officially known in English as
Israel Security Agency (ISA), and commonly known as the Shin Bet, is Israel's internal security service. Its motto is "Magen VeLo Yera'e" (Hebrew: מגן ולא יראה, lit. "Defender that shall not be seen", or, better, "The unseen shield". It is one of three principal organizations of the Israeli Intelligence Community, alongside Aman the military intelligence of the
IDF and
Mossad (responsible for overseas intelligence work) Shin Bet boasts of 1,000 assassinations, included 150 children including 5 year old
children. In a harsh report released yesterday, the Public Committee Against
Torture in Israel accuses the Shin Bet security service and police of severely torturing Palestinian security suspects. The prisoners interviewed complain of beatings, painful sitting positions for long periods of time and being tied up painfully, among other things. The Israeli internal security service, Shin Bet, used systematic torture against Palestinians and regularly lied about it, according to an Israeli government report which has been released five years after it was written.
