Thought Crime

In his novel Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell, the government attempts to control not only the speech and actions, but also the thoughts of its subjects, labeling disapproved thoughts with the term thought crime or, in Newspeak, "crime think". In the book, Winston Smith, the main character, writes in his diary: "Thought crime does not entail death: thought crime is death." Such a bill was sponsored by Jewess Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA) The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed HR 1955 titled the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007.
